In reference to your letter No. TBF/20/6/2011 dated 20-06-2011, regarding
Buddhist Monuments in Haryana; I would like to put forward comments on each of the Buddhist sites which have been discussed in your letter-
Buddhist Stupa Sanghol — It is well preserved and fenced, which is also evident from the photographs enclosed by you. Again, as stated earlier, facilities of separate toilet blocks for the ladies and gents & drinking water, have already been provided at the site.
Buddhist Stupa, Assandh — It is located in the centre of the Asandh town which is a densely populated area. The land of the stupa site has already been demarcated with the help of Distt. Revenue Authorities and fencing of the protected area have already been completed by the A.S.I Chandigarh Circle.
Khokharakot — Photographs of the ruined mound enclosed by you does not represent the Centrally’ Protected Site of Khokharakot. The protected area falls in the Khasra Nos. 6860, 6773, 6774, 6767, 4890, 4899, 4888, 4457, 4441, 4439, 4426, 4428, 6827, 6807, 6808, 7808, 7809, 7812, 7788, 7789, 7795ç 7794, 7793, 7802, 4430, 4443, 4454, 4484, 6775, 6776, 6781, 6782. 6783, 6787 to 6804, 6846, 6847 and 6859 which have already been demarcated with the help of Distt. Revenue Authorities and fenced partly after carrying out several demolition drives against the encroachers.
Agroha — Buddhist site, Agroha is well preserved by the A.S.I Chandigarh Circle which is evident from the photographs enclosed by you. Several tourist friendly facilities like separate toilet blocks for the ladies and gents, drinking water & pathways to the excavated area, have already been provi4d at the site.
Adi Badri — The site of Adi Badri was excavated by the A.S.I Chandigarh Circle in the year 2002-03 which revealed the enormous archaeological potential of the site. A full fledged Buddhist monastic complex along with some stupas were exposed at the site, which have been subsequently conserved by the A.S.I, Chandigarh Circle. An Interpretation Centre has already been set up at the site. A.S.I Chandigarh Circle is working towards the protection of the excavated area. For this purpose, the land to be protected has already been demarcated with the help of Revenue Authorities and the land schedule has been sent to the D.C., Yamunanagar for further verification. The protection of the site has been proposed keeping in view the overall development of the site and for the purpose of providing access to the site along with landscapihg of the site.
Further, I would like to inform you that, A.S.I Chandigarh Circle is also organizing various cultural awareness programme at these site. Recently, a cultural awareness programme was organized at Adi Badri, on the occasion of Word Tourism Day (i.e 27 Sept. 2011), with the objective of spreading awareness about our cultural heritage, among the general mass.
