Message form Dr.Shahnaj Husne Jahan
As an academician and archaeologist by profession, I feel international campaign “Save Stupas Save Buddha” initiated by “The Buddhist Forum” is doing a wonderful job because this will help in connecting all the missing links between the various sites of Buddhism spread all over Asia, since from the time of Buddha and king Asoka, the Mauryan emperor. Somapura Mahavihara in Naogaon district of Bangladesh is the largest Buddhist Vihara in South Asia with an excellent example of cruciform temple, which influenced many temples in Southeast Asia including Pagan in Myanmar, Borobudur in Java, etc. Besides, a rich Buddhist heritage is present in Bangladesh in the form of stupas, viharas, inscriptions, paintings, sculptures, images. I feel it is the need of the hour to preserve and promote the ancient Buddhist heritage sites in all countries of Asia, which could further boost the tourism sector, create employment and help in building the national economy.
After, analyzing the various aspects of the campaign, I understand it should be supported by all Asians and if the objectives are achieved it will be a great boon to all countries of Asia.
All my best wishes for all the members of the “The Buddhist Forum” to achieve success in their mission.
